PLAYING
THE COURSE
The Whittlesea Disc Golf
course is integrated with the front nine holes of the
Ball course. The course is wonderfully maintained and
is in a beautiful setting. It consists of 9 x Innova
Pro Baskets and 9 x recycled rubber tee mats. For competitions,
another 9 tees are set up to create the 18 hole course.
The baskets are an Australian
Made INNOVA Pro basket (under licence to INNOVA U.S).
They are a single row 18 strand configuration and fully
galvanised.
The 9 hole course is
just short of 1500 metres in length and with varying
degrees of difficulty.
Whittlesea would appear
to favour the longer throwers. On many holes you'll
be needing to make at least a couple of long throws
to get a sniff of the basket.
However, last year's
winner at Whittlesea, Harvey Yarnall, is not known for
his huge arm. He confessed it was his putting that made
the difference.
The Tale Of Three
Holes
Hole 2 - The
very short 2nd hole (Par 3) and course signature hole.
Guarded in the front by a copse of trees, and yet visible
to the player. The basket stands in a very open space,
BUT be aware of the errant long shot or "Roller'
that could have you wadding into the water behind the
basket.
Hole 4 - Perhaps
the 4th is more to your liking. A long Par 5 that sweeps
left and the basket is in the trees far right. Two good
throws and you'll be there, perhaps even an Eagle (it
has been achieved). Sounds good for you long throwers?
Best be aware of the very large dam on the left corner
of the fairway. Only the brave or stupid will attempt
the 'cut the corner' throw. The dam is very deep so
there's very little chance of seeing your favourite
disc again.
Hole 8 - This
par 3 is a good straight drive over the pond and down
to the basket tucked away in the trees near the front
entrance to the course. Easy as eh? Hmmm but what about
the ball golf green and the golf club driveway on either
side of the basket - both are OB areas? Land here and
you're sure to bogie What was looking like an easy birdie.
